100 Good Wishes Quilt

"How  can you say there are too many children in the world?

That is like saying there are too many flowers."

                                                Mother Teresa of Calcutta

What is this quilt business all about anyway?

To welcome a new child, a tradition exists in the northern part of China to make a Bai Jia Bei (aka 100 Good Wishes Quilt). The family invites friends and family to contribute a square of cloth along with their wish for the baby.Part of the square goes into the quilt for the baby, and the other part goes into a scrapbook with the wish for the child. It is said that the quilt contains the luck, energy, and good wishes from everyone who contributed a piece of fabric.  We will be trying to keep as much of our future child's heritage alive and thought that this tradition may be something very special that he/she can pass on to future generations.

Scott and I were going to give it a whirl in trying to put this together, but Abuela Titi (Kai's maternal grandmother) has offered her wonderful sewing expertise and will be doing it for us.  Good thing!  Otherwise he may be 15 years old before he gets it.

Check back with us soon.....we will be posting pictures of how the quilt is coming along and all of the letters and beautiful fabric squares we have been receiving from friends and family.

HERE IS OUR FINISHED QUILT!!!!!   WE LOVE IT!!

A HUGE thank you to Abuela Titi, Kai's maternal grandmother,

for putting it together for us....and thank you to all of

our family and friends for your beautiful wishes and squares!
